Bowls Papanui Inc is located in the picturesque five hectare Edgar MacIntosh Park in the North West suburb of Papanui. Marist Albion use our facilities during the rugby season and for meetings and functions during the year.
There is also a children's pool, a playground and a Cricket club.
The two-green Bowls Papanui complex boasts a modern, comfortable clubhouse complete with a large, upstairs lounge with bar. A ground floor kitchen with a modern bar, dance floor and dining room facilities. The pavilion is of a very high standard and is available to members at all times and can be hired for private functions on application to the Manager Facilities for a hire charge. Full kitchen facilities are also available.
The two 36.6m x 36.6m Maniototo weed greens are renowned for their quality and consistency, with very attractive surrounds. One green has lights for evening games.
The bowling club opened in 1911 with a membership of 32 men. Women were admitted in 1962 with a limit of 24 lady members; a policy long abandoned. Club members have won National titles in Pairs and Fours as well as numerous Canterbury Centre and interclub championships. Several players have represented Canterbury at inter-Centre level.
We are a fully integrated club with an excellent club spirit built on inclusiveness and the One Bowls philosophy. New members are always welcome. Coaching is available to all new members and everyone is welcome to take advantage of coaching at any time.

Bowls Papanui have excellent facilities available to hire for an extensive range of functions. There are at least three distinctly different areas suitable for a wide variety of requirements.
We have the Lecture room which caters for smaller gatherings such as community groups which can accommodate up to 30 – 40 people comfortably.
The main downstairs area is expansive, at approximately 30 x 15 meters; and can easily be used for large gatherings for example weddings, birthdays and large work functions of up to 200 or more. A well appointed kitchen is handily situated at one end should you need to provide catering. This area has a modern bar, a large dance floor with space for DJ or extra equipment you want to bring, Toilet facilities at both ends of the hall and easy access to the bowling greens for your bowling experience.
The upstairs lounge is extensively used for wide variety of other events. It is very well appointed, with comfortable lounge type seating and an area for a band or your choice of entertainment, along with an area for dancing. This can be put in place to your size requirements. There is an outside balcony easily accessed from the lounge for those that enjoy a “puff or two”, or just a bit of fresh air.
We have a well stocked bar with an extensive range of Tap or Bottled beers along with RTD's, Cask and Bottled wines and non alcoholic drinks. We have low alcohol beer on tap and all items are very competitively priced. The upstairs lounge can accommodate up to 150 depending on seating and dance floor arrangements
Heating of all areas is more than adequate and we have a wireless portable microphone system which can reach all areas of the facility, or just those you wish to select. You can also plug in MP3's, Cellphones or Laptops into our system to play your music through our speakers or video onto our televisions. We have a Large screen and High Definition projection system available to use. It can be set up play SKY TV on it or if you bring your device with HDMI capabilities you project anything on that device onto the screen. For Example, Videos, Music, Presentations etc.
There is a BBQ available for your use if required. If in the case of an afternoon or early evening work function, you would like to treat your staff or customers to a bowls experience, sets of bowls can be provided along with helpers to offer advice at a modest cost. You may be surprised at how much fun it can be, as many organizers and participants of these types of functions we run, will attest. Flat soled shoes or jandals are a must on the greens.
Should you require beverages that we do not normally stock we can discuss that and accommodate reasonable requests with some conditions.
Hire rates are very competitive and are left flexible to better able us to fit the rate to the numbers involved and your requirements. As mentioned earlier, the Bar prices are very competitive and we have experienced bar staff at very reasonable rates to ensure your function runs smoothly.
It is a requirement of our liquor license that non associated guests sign the visitors book and any cost related to the need to get a late liquor license are met by the hirer.
